It has been a while since I have had a chance to sit down and really update. As usual, things have been busy, busy around here. I got back from my procedure and everything has gone smoothly. I hope to do a whole post on that soon. However, we got back on Monday and my oldest daughter came down with the Flu on Wednesday. Which meant by Friday we all had the Flu, except Hubby, who is required by the military to take a Flu shot. It was rough, as we have never had the flu. We are just now, 2 1/2 wks. later, really getting over it.
But on a more happy note, this is what we are up to..... We have disked up our garden plot. It measures 50 X 95, which will be about 4750 sq. ft. of beautiful garden. We plan on planting:
- LOTS of Peas (several different kinds)
- Tomatoes (several different kinds)
- Cucumbers (mainly for pickling)
- Squash
- Eggplant
- Zucchini
- Peppers
- Okra
- Corn
- Sunflowers
- Marigolds
- Watermelon
- Muskmelon
Now this is what hubby, middle DD, and Ds are doing bright and early this morning. They are taking these once little cuties to market. They looked like this back in July.
Now they look like this.
They are loaded on the trailer and are headed to the processor. It was sad to see them go but they were getting quite stinky. It has been a fun project and I think we will probably do it again if the meat is as good as we keep hearing.
And last but not least, I thought I would throw in a daily around here. Here are the horses waiting on their morning rations. As Hubby and the kids were leaving with the pigs, the horses were letting us know they are ready to eat.
Now for other news, the day for my honey to leave is getting closer and closer. He leaves our home in May for a month of training before going over to Iraq. However, he will be gone for 4 wks. sporadically between now and then. So we are leaving next week to go on a cruise. We are so excited. We will be gone from Monday to Saturday. We wanted to do something extravagant before he left and this is it!!! So today and tomorrow I will be getting things packed and then it's Bon Voyage Baby!!!
I hope you all have a beautiful weekend. It is a glorious 70+ degrees here in Mississippi, so I foresee some yard work going on here.

What a wonderful chance to get away before his deployment. I seriously have tears in my eyes thinking of him leaving...and I'm not even a crier. What a sacrifice he's making for all of us.
AND you garden is AMAZING!! I need to sit at your feet. With the new government gearing up, we're thnking we need to beef up our garden as well. We always start big and then everything dies off mid way through the summer. I am a novice wanna a bee....will you post more about this? :)
I'm glad y'all are finally over the flu! I had it a couple of years ago, and I DO NOT want to repeat it!
Those pigs look like good eatin'! They did a great job raising them.
And as for your garden, You go Girl! I don't do gardens. I think it stems from when I was a girl my Grandaddy had us kids out in the summer time weeding and picking. I HATED IT. I think it scarred me for life. By the looks of my yard, I think it scarred me from doing ANYTHING with plants! LOL
But I know you will reap great benefits during the summer and fall!

I just came across your blog and must say I am sooo jealous that you will that gorgeous garden! We have the land for it but too much shade! It looks like we'll have several "mini" gardens in containers this year. Curious, I know mariglod's keep pests away but do sunflowers as well or are they just for looks?
I bet you got some good eating out of those little piggies. Do you think it was worth it, money wise? I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Your garden is awesome! And I am so excited for you and hubby going on the cruise. It really makes my heart ache for both of you that he will be deployed in the near future. Thank you both for your sacrifices as he serves our country.
I am so impressed by you wives that share your husband to help keep our country free, thankyou! I wish you could come here and teach me how to garden, my grandpa always had a huge garden, I wish I would have paid more attention!
I'm a bit jealous of your garden! We can't grow anything in the ground over here at the beach. Too much sand. But we do have a little green house that we are growing some things.

Oh girl...I love seeing your plowed garden and that chicken and those pigs and horses ...ohhhhh I love country life...I love fresh grown vegetables!!! I know how you feel sweetie about your hubby leaving...it has been 36 yrs ago this March 26th that I stood holding my small babies with tears running down my face as the plane took off carrying my hubby to Korea for a year...to this day I can't bear to think of that year without him...I still cry...we women are a tough bunch and we step up to the plate and do what is needed...we function and carry on our daily lives and maintain the household and the kids and on the outside the world never knows how we read and reread his letters in the middle of the night while the world sleeps...how we sit crying in the closet holding his shirt remembering the smell of him and wondering how much longer can your heart take this loneliness..always whispering a prayer for him that God watch over him and protect him from all harm...my hat is off to you & your hubby for all you sacrifice for this country...there is greatness in you my friend and I know you will be fine...I admire you girl!
