The Harvest is Definately Coming In....

It has been a while since my last post and here is a big reason why. I am up to my ears in putting up the harvest. One thing that we inherited from buying our little slice of heaven is a row of muscadine/scuppernog vines and a huge pear tree.
Here is one of 4 sink fulls of Bronze muscadines. We also have purple coming in.

Here is one of 2 clothes baskets full of pears.
And this is the end result.... I have put up about 50+ jars of muscadine jelly, pear butter, spiced pears, and pear preserves. It has been very time consuming but I know come winter and Christmas, I will be glad I did it. I will be giving neighbors and other friends a pretty jar of jelly and a fresh loaf of bread for Christmas Happy's.

So with school and preserving our little harvest, I have been a busy little bee. I am also hoping to plant a few cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and lettuce today in a little plot we made Friday.

I still have not gotten out my fall decorations but I hope to this week. It is just now feeling like fall here in Central Ms. The temps. this week should be in the lower 80's, which is a nice change from upper 90's.

Before I go and check out all of your blogs, I wanted to share this You Tube clip. Of course it has a political overtone, that is not my intent. I just thought it was a tear jerker and wanted to share.

I hope you all have a great week. Oh, and Dot, I will be buying that black paint for the mantel today!!!!

You, my blogging friend, are seriously causing me to covet and that is definitely not biblical. :) Those trees and vines CAME with your slice of heaven.....waaaaaa!! I tried planting fruit trees when we bought our land to no avail. SEriously, that is SO WONDERFUL!

Mrs. T, good for you putting up all that bounty. I am so grateful that my parents have a big garden to share. I don't know what we'll do when they no longer plant. We'll have to do more of our own. We tried tomatoes this year, but they hardly made anything.

I love my mom's canned tomatoes, that are SO good. And my parents have muscadines too.

What a harvest indeed! You have been a busy little momma. Those jars filled with sweetness bring back some great memories. I wished I would have paid attention when my Maw Maw was canning. They always made us go outside because they said the pressure cooker was a dangerous thing. Back then I was scared to death of it.... Boy we have come a long way... If you ever teach a class I would love to learn, smiles, hugs, and thank you's!

I've never heard of mucadine. Someone once gave me two jars of peaches and I ate them both in one day. I don't think that's what she had in mind but they were too good. You have been a busy little bee. The pear butter sounds delicious.

It's starting to cool slightly in AZ. I can actually walk outside without sweating too much. It's still around 100 though. Have a good week Trixi!

Ok, maybe I'm stupid but what are scuppernog vines? Is it a type of grapes? I'm so impressed with all your canning, I will be doing some grape juice and rasberry jam in a month or so. Any advice on getting the skins off of pears to can? My neighbor has a big pear tree and says we can have as many as we want.

Oh, those "muskeedines" (you know that's they way we say it up here in North Mississippi!) look soooo good! And the pears! Some of my favorite things in the world are muscadine jelly and pear preserves! I can almost taste those pear preserves...sorry...I'm trying not to drool on the keyboard. You have been very busy!

Wow your bounty looks wonderful. I would love to have something on our property to can. But I'm not sure what you can can from a bunch of palm trees lol. Thank you for visiting my blog and your kind words. I will pick Mary and have a wonderful relaxing time. Please come back and say hi again. I love meeting new friends.
Blessings to you.

Wonderful! I need to see if I can find some pears. You have been one busy lady, and I wish you would share your secret of how you changed your blog template. I simply cannot figure it out, even with the instructions. Yours is beautiful, and one I would have picked because I love fall. Jackie

I'm not sure what a muscadine is, I don't think we have them in Oregon. I do relate with the overflow of produce this time of year, though! I enjoyed your blog! Karen

Thank you so much for the comment about circuses. It is so rewarding to know others do have compassion and feel the way you do. I'm not all that crazy about zoos either. I have read about unethical ways they get animals and also ways they get rid of animals they no longer want. I do believe the world is a beautiful place, but there sure are a lot of cruel and horrible things that happen.
